The Westport Golf Course was one of the challenging and nicest parkland golf courses that we played in Ireland.

Westport Golf Club was located in Carrowholly, Westport in Co. Mayo. It has magnificent views of the Croagh Patrick and Clew Bay.

The Westport Golf Course was an 18-hole championship golf course. It even hosted the Smurfit Irish P.G.A. Championship in 2002.

Professional golfers like Padraig Harrington, Rory McIlroy, and Paul McGinley have already played on this panoramic golf course.

The fairways and greens were well-maintained. Some of the fairways were a little bit narrow and not so forgiving.

The other fairways were maybe wide but were also tricky. Some of the Par 4s were short.

Tips:

Some of the Par 4s are short but should never be underestimated.

Some of the fairways may not be so forgiving but there is a chance that you might hit the wrong fairway. So, you could still play from the other fairway. But it is not going to be easy too because of the trees surrounding the area.

Be extra careful every time you make a stroke because of the wind. You may think that you made a good strike, your golf ball looking straight on the fairway only to be taken away by the wind.

The 12th hole is such a long Par 3 for ladies and a tricky one. Club selection is very important. If you played it short and landed on the left side, make sure to make a good chip and run. It is not going to be an easy one. Playing it long is not that good too because of the water.

The 15th hole is such a long Par 5 especially for men. Ladies’ tee is not on the same area with men’s tee but quite very tricky because of the wind. The wind could take your golf ball to the left, might even land on the water, and voila, out of bounds. Play safe to the right.

You need to be careful with this course. It is nice but very tricky. Again, very challenging!

Westport Golf Club was a well-maintained golf club, from the golf course to the clubhouse.

The clubhouse, from the locker room to the restaurant, was nice and clean, and people were quite very friendly.

Signature Hole: Fifteenth Hole
